Entry for August 5, 2006: Lead, Follow, and Get Hell Out of My Way

"If what you're doing won't make a difference in five years, it probably doesn't matter now."

Often we get caught up in life's rat race and we end up leaveing many things undone. We call it, "having to many irons in the fire," or "too much on [our] plates." The point is we're distracted from what's important in life.

As we read the Bible, in Genesis,  God gave us His example, His order of precedence for operating our lives. First He created the world, a place for us to worship Him and a place in which WE CAN SEE His work and His love for us. Then God created all living things; plants, animals, fish, birds, cattle, everything,  including Adam and Eve and He gave them an assignment. A mission.  He told Adam and Eve to, "subdue the earth," and "be frutiful and multiply."

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said if we devote time to God's Kingdom, everything else will fall into place. So I ask you to please follow this logic.

By God's example in Genesis and the Gospels, WE should first...worship our CREATOR. Second, we should DEVOTE TIME and LIFE ENERGY to OUR SPOUSE (our Eve). And finally, we give LIFE ENERGY to OUR FAMILIES (our children). When we do this, then everything else (church, work and community, in that order, and subduing our world by our good works and example) will fall into place as we order our time.

We should also find someone to mentor. We start with our families; our wives and children. Then we reach out to our community.

Specifiaclly, in Acts, Jesus promised before His ascension to heaven He would send the Holy Spirit who would give us POWER to be witnesses. FIRST to JERUSALEM (our families) then to Judea (our communities) and so on.

When we tend to dwell on what we think we should have had, and what is distracting us (our heart pain and disappointments from war, from combat) we might miss the opportunities to LEAD being presented to us THIS DAY.  We might miss the opportunites presnted to us to UNITE with our families and our spouses in a solid Christain faith.

One of the greatest points of spiritual attack in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is through isolation. An easy way to isolate someone is to keep them busy and distracted. Separated from his or her support system. Remember that tactic in combat?

If the enemy of our souls can separate us from our loved ones, our one main source for genuine love and support, then the evil one can and will defeat us...and destroy our families. Depression, anxiety, fear, substance abuse and addiction, sexual misconduct only to name a few destructive tendencies will overtake us. The result is often divorce and sometimes suicide. Obviously this is not God's best for us.

Blessings to all,
