Thought for September 6, 2006: One Life to Live

My mother died on January 1st, 2004.  My wife's mother just passed away.  It is our greatest hope that both mothers knew our Lord as we received comfort that they did.  But we also look back at a life.  Lives spent raising children, washing clothes, cooking, driving a school bus, answering telephones and processing people into a hospital emergency room.

Is a person's life measured by the number of friends who attend their burial?  There was perhaps 200 at my mother-in-law's funeral and 100 to 150 at my mother's memorial service.  Or is it more important how you touched your family?  I can tell stories of how my mother hurt me but I can tell more stories of how she blessed me.

When the dates are recorded on your headstone a dash (-) is used to seperate them.  That dash is all that represents your life.  What will it mean for you?

It will not...I say again...IT WILL NOT ...represent how or what God judges you on.  God does not judge us on our works in life.  Oh they show up again as the "Lamb's Book of Life" and the "other books" are opened at the judgment of all men (Revelation 20:12).  But God judges based on our relationship to Him through His son Jesus Christ.  Have our sins been covered, washed away,  in the cleansing Blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus?

It isn't about PTSD, or Iraq, Afgahnistan, Desert Storm, Vietnam or any war.  It's about what and how we allow it to rule in our lives.  It isn't about the pain we suffer.  It's about living with it and letting it reign in our lives rather than letting the King of Kings reign.  It isn't about mourning over the loss of a loved one or a broken marriage or how many years we've lost because of alcohol or drugs.  It's about whether or not we have a love relationship with Jesus Christ and do we share that love with others.  It's about have we allowed him to dig deep into our souls and root out the hurt; heal us and cleanse us from the filth and dirt accumulated over time.

I will not beg, but I will ask...if this is you, if you know someone who is in pain, if you just want to make a change or if you wnat to come back to the Lord, won't you make that ddecision?  Contact us.  Our contact information is provided on this site.

Blessings to you all,

Frank & Jamie
